True Volunteers is a volunteering organization founded by Mariapia Ferraro. Maria spent 3 months volunteering in Ghana and fell in love with the country, the culture and the people. Whilst volunteering in Kwahu she met Foster, a Ghanaian who grew up in Kwahu working for a local volunteering organisation, he gained the experience needed to help Mariapia change lives. Both share a passion for helping others and for improving the lives of many young and deprived children and poor communities here in Ghana.
Founder and CEO
Born in Italy, Maria moved to the UK at the age of 18 where she made a professional career as a graphic designer in London for almost 9 years. With a passion for travelling, one day she decided she wanted to do something meaningful and humanitarian in life so she quit her job and went to Ghana to help change lives. On her volunteering placements she learned a lot about the communities and the children’s needs and how she could make a more sustainable and lasting impact to create better opportunities for children and deprived communities so she decided to move to Ghana permanently and fund True Volunteers in 2019.
During your stay in Ghana you will be living in a shared volunteer house with volunteers from all over the world and a supportive team who will assist you 24/7. We are based in Nkwatia, the eastern region of Ghana. All placements are located within this area and local amenities such as convenience stores, pharmacies and ATM are all within close proximity to the house.
We want to create sustainable and lasting projects according to the needs of our community. By working closely with them, we can to create simple and low-cost solutions through our projects. We love what we do and work hard to give our volunteers the best experience possible.
